Habitat & Tank Requirements

Natural Habitat: Green Banded Gobies come from shallow Caribbean and Western Atlantic reefs where they live among rubble, corals, and rock crevices. They prefer sheltered, calm areas with plenty of structure.

Tank Environment:
• Provide rockwork with caves, small holes, and branching corals for perching
• Fine sand or mixed substrate
• Gentle to moderate flow to allow comfortable hovering and movement

Recommended Water Parameters:
• Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
• Salinity: 1.020–1.025 sg
• pH: 8.1–8.4
• Nitrate: Low to moderate

Diet & Feeding

Green Banded Gobies are carnivores that feed on tiny crustaceans and plankton in the wild. In home aquariums, they readily accept small foods suited for nano fish.

Recommended Foods:
• Mysis shrimp (finely chopped)
• Baby brine shrimp
• Copepods
• Small frozen zooplankton
• High-quality nano pellets or micro-flakes

Feeding Schedule: Feed 1–2 times daily. Offer very small amounts to ensure they receive food without competition from larger tankmates.

Behavior & Compatibility

Temperament: Green Banded Gobies are peaceful, curious, and enjoy perching on rocks or coral branches. They are generally confident for their size but still appreciate hiding spots.

Tank Mates:
• Great with peaceful nano fish such as clown gobies, firefish, dartfish, neon gobies, and small blennies
• Avoid aggressive or overly large tankmates
• Completely safe with corals and invertebrates, including shrimp

Breeding Potential

Green Banded Gobies have been bred in captivity and may pair in home aquariums. They typically lay eggs in small crevices, and males guard them until hatching. Raising the larvae can be challenging due to their tiny size and need for specialized microscopic foods.
