Habitat & Tank Requirements

Natural Habitat:
Sleeper Banded Gobies are native to the Indo-Pacific, where they inhabit sandy areas near coral reefs. They prefer sheltered zones with rubble, crevices, and rocks for hiding and resting.

Tank Environment:

• Provide plenty of sand for burrowing and resting
• Include rockwork, caves, and crevices for shelter
• Moderate water flow with stable, mature tank conditions
• Keep the tank secure with a lid, as gobies may jump when startled

Diet & Feeding

Sleeper Banded Gobies are carnivorous and feed on small invertebrates and microfauna in the wild. In aquariums, they readily accept finely chopped meaty foods and small sinking preparations.

Recommended Foods:

• Mysis shrimp

• Copepods and small zooplankton
• Finely chopped marine meats
• Small sinking pellets or micro-flakes for carnivores

Feeding Schedule:
Feed 1–2 times a day in very small portions. Ensure food reaches the bottom where they dwell, as they may be outcompeted by faster mid-water fish.

Temperament:

• Compatible with peaceful community fish such as clownfish, dartfish, blennies, gobies, firefish, and small wrasses

Breeding Potential

Sleeper Banded Gobies may form pairs and lay eggs in sand or sheltered crevices. Males typically guard the eggs until hatching. Successful breeding in home aquariums is rare due to the delicate larvae and need for specialized care.
