Habitat & Tank Requirements

• Tank Environment: Requires extensive rockwork with large caves, overhangs, and swimming space. The Koran Angel is an active swimmer that needs both territories to claim and open areas to patrol.

• Aquascape: Substantial live rock formations are crucial for grazing, shelter, and establishing territory. Ensure rockwork is stable and secure.
• Compatibility: Should be the only large angelfish in the system. Can coexist with other large, semi-aggressive fish such as tangs, triggers, groupers, and wrasses. Avoid housing with other angels or overly passive species. Best added as one of the last fish to reduce territorial aggression.

Diet & Feeding

Koran Angelfish are omnivores with hearty appetites requiring a diverse, nutritious diet:

• Meaty Foods: Mysis shrimp, chopped clams, mussels, squid, scallops, krill, marine fish flesh
• Plant Matter: Marine algae, nori sheets, spirulina flakes, fresh vegetables (blanched zucchini, broccoli)
• Specialty Items: High-quality angelfish preparations containing sponge material (essential for long-term health and coloration)
• Commercial Foods: Angelfish pellets, frozen angel formulas
• Feeding Schedule: Feed 2–3 times daily in generous portions. Koran Angels have high metabolic needs and benefit from frequent feeding.

Notes & Considerations

• Behavior: Adult Korans are confident, bold, and often become the dominant fish in the aquarium. They may display aggression toward new additions and can be territorial with tank mates.
• Juvenile vs. Adult Coloration: Juveniles display striking concentric white and blue circles on a dark body—completely different from adults. The transformation occurs gradually between 4–8 inches, with the iconic “script” pattern developing as they mature.
• Coral Compatibility: Highly destructive to reef environments. Will eat soft corals, LPS, SPS, zoanthids, clam mantles, and ornamental shrimp.
• Tank Size Critical: Inadequate space leads to stunted growth, aggression, and health issues. These are large, active fish that require spacious accommodations.
• Acclimation: Generally hardy once established, but proper drip acclimation and stable water quality are essential during introduction.
• Gender: Sexual dimorphism is not externally visible. Koran Angels are protogynous hermaphrodites. Captive breeding is extremely rare and not commercially viable.
• Personality: Many develop interactive behaviors, recognizing their keeper and begging for food. Highly intelligent and engaging fish.
