Habitat & Tank Requirements

Natural Habitat: Firefish Red inhabit Indo-Pacific reef slopes where they hover above sandy or rubble bottom zones. They live near burrows or crevices where they quickly retreat when startled.

Tank Environment:

• Provide live rock caves or crevices for hiding
• Sand or mixed substrate suitable for natural retreating behavior
• Moderate water flow with calm zones for hovering

Diet & Feeding

Firefish Red are carnivores that naturally feed on planktonic prey. In aquariums they readily accept small, protein-rich foods.

Recommended Foods:

• Mysis shrimp
• Brine shrimp
• Copepods and micro-zooplankton
• Finely chopped marine meats
• High-quality micro-pellets

Feeding Schedule: Feed 1–2 times daily in small amounts. Offer mid-water foods to match their natural feeding behavior.

Behavior & Compatibility

Temperament: Firefish Red are gentle, somewhat timid, and easily startled. They hover above open areas but rely on a secure hiding place when frightened.

Tank Mates:

• Excellent with peaceful fish such as gobies, dartfish, small wrasses, clownfish, cardinalfish, and blennies
• Avoid aggressive or territorial fish that may bully or chase them
• Completely safe with corals and reef invertebrates

Breeding Potential

Firefish Red can form bonded pairs and may spawn in caves or burrows. However, raising the tiny larvae in home aquariums is extremely rare due to their delicate planktonic stage and specialized feeding needs.
