6 Line Wrasse for Sale: Natural Pest Control for Reef Tanks

Every reef tank keeper eventually faces the frustration of unwanted pests. Bristle worms, pyramidellid snails, small mantis shrimp, and nudibranchs can all cause serious problems in a coral reef system. The good news is that nature already has a solution, and it comes in the form of one of the most popular and useful fish in the hobby. The Six Line Wrasse is a natural pest controller, a stunning display fish, and a hardy addition that works beautifully in a wide range of reef tanks. At Dr. Reef’s Quarantined Fish, our Six Line Wrasses are quarantined, conditioned, and ready to get to work in your tank.
What Makes the Six Line Wrasse So Special?
The Six Line Wrasse, known scientifically as Pseudocheilinus hexataenia, earns its name from the six distinct horizontal blue and orange lines that run along its body. Add a striking pink and green head with a false eyespot near the tail, and you have one of the most visually dynamic small fish available in the saltwater hobby. It is compact, usually reaching about three inches in length, which makes it suitable for smaller reef tanks as well as large displays.
Beyond its good looks, the Six Line Wrasse is a relentless hunter of small invertebrate pests. It spends most of the day actively picking through rockwork, sand, and coral rubble in search of food. This natural foraging behavior makes it one of the best biological solutions for controlling nuisance pests that can damage corals and other invertebrates.
Natural Pest Control You Can Count On
Here is a short list of pests the Six Line Wrasse actively hunts and controls in a reef tank. It targets pyramidellid snails, which are parasitic invaders that attack clams and other bivalves. It goes after small bristle worms hiding in the rockwork. It hunts tiny mantis shrimp before they grow large enough to become a serious problem. It also feeds on flatworms and small nudibranchs that can devastate coral colonies if left unchecked.
Having a Six Line Wrasse in your tank is like having a full-time security guard patrolling your reef 24 hours a day. It is one of the few fish that genuinely earns its keep beyond just being beautiful.
The Dr. Reef Quarantine Guarantee
Wrasses are known to be active, fast-moving fish that can be challenging to catch and treat once they are established in a display tank. This is one of the strongest reasons to buy your Six Line Wrasse from Dr. Reef’s Quarantined Fish. Every fish has already completed a full 30-day quarantine with proactive disease treatment before it ships. You will never have to worry about pulling apart your entire aquascape trying to catch a sick wrasse, because the fish arriving from Dr. Reef’s are already clean and healthy.
Tank Setup and Compatibility
Six Line Wrasses do well in tanks of 30 gallons or larger. They need a tightly fitted lid because they are known to jump, especially during the first few days in a new environment. Provide plenty of live rock with small caves and crevices where the wrasse can sleep at night and retreat to when it feels threatened.
Be mindful of tank mates. Six Line Wrasses can occasionally show aggression toward smaller, more timid fish, particularly other wrasse species. Introduce the Six Line Wrasse last if possible, so that other fish are already established and the wrasse does not claim the entire tank as its territory.
Feed it a varied diet of frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine pellets to supplement its natural foraging activity.
